We are thrilled that a classic episode from the 1984 series 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes’ was filmed at Leighton Hall. In the episode ‘The Adventure of the Dancing Men’, Leighton Hall became Ridling Thorpe Manor, the country estate of Hilton and Elsie Cubitt where Holmes and Watson investigate the appearance of mysterious and chilling chalk figures.
We welcome visits from fans of this classic series during our open public summer season, and our guides will be happy to chat about the filming and point out locations. Follow Holmes and Watson as they journeyed up the panoramic drive to the dramatic Gothic facade, investigate the sweeping lawns and windowsills where Elsie Cubitt was terrified by mysterious drawings of dancing men, and sit on the famous garden bench where she hid a secret note, with dramatic consequences.
