THE HISTORY OF LEIGHTON HALL & THE GILLOW FAMILY

The very grand appearance of Leighton Hall with its turrets and towers is down to its Victorian owners who added a fashionable, limestone frontage in 1822 to what was fairly simple house. The original house was built over 750 years ago in 1246.

It came to be owned by the Gillow family in 1822. The Gillows are a very famous furniture making family who designed and made very good furniture from timber brought in to Lancaster from all over the world.

The first Gillow to own Leighton Hall is the great, great, great grandfather of the present owner, Mr Richard Gillow Reynolds.
