We were given a house tour by Pam who was absolutely super – simply wonderful with the children who all found it really interesting. We had a great day and will definitely return to explore the beautiful gardens.

Leighton Hall welcomes day & family visitors from 2pm to 5pm, Tuesday to Friday, May to September each year. Our enthusiastic and friendly guides will be happy to share with you the magic of this grand old home, its’ heritage and its’ character.
Leighton Hall is very much a lived-in house rather than a stuffy museum, there are no roped-off areas and you won’t find anyone shouting ‘don’t touch!’ at your children! The Halls history is brought to life by the guides. Each room from the modest chapel to the imposing dining room is still used every day by the Gillow family. With lots of funny and fascinating tales to reveal, the family’s ancestry means there are plenty of unusual pieces of furniture and paintings to enjoy.
After your house tour, spend some time in the gardens, the pride and joy of Mrs Suzie Reynolds, the lady of the house. There’s an abundant 19th century walled garden, a fragrant little herb patch and ornamental vegetable plot as well as our popular Woodland Walk and Caterpillar Maze.
All our visitors are treated to a FREE bird of prey display at 3:30 every day (weather permitting).
After all that, relax in our tearooms that serve delicious home make cakes, scones and tray bakes and of course lashings of English tea!
Suggested Itinerary
Children are encouraged to come to Leighton. They can explore and enjoy our caterpillar maze, woodland trail, tree face trail, as well as letting off steam in our playground.
In August, children are treated to our free teddy bear hunt competition, which is part of our family tour around the house. Each child is encouraged to seek out a member of the Reynolds family of teddy bears, one is hidden in each room.
Hidden within the Woodland walk are Trees with Faces on, children are encouraged to complete the quiz sheet and find all the tree faces in order to win a small prize.
We have 80 acres of parkland where you are welcome to walk your family dogs (on leads please), but regrettably, dogs are not admitted to the house or gardens.
Assistance dogs are most welcome in the house and gardens, but don't forget your Assistance Dog ID Book and to adhere to your code of practice and responsibilities.
