None of us wanted to leave - It was all so delightful!
Joy Evans, Bowdon & District Decorative & Fine Arts Society
Every year hundreds of groups visit Leighton Hall. Whether they’re Gardeners, Social Clubs or Women’s Institutes, they are all charmed by our friendly guides, breathtaking scenery, beautiful gardens and fascinating family history.
Leighton is still lived in by the Gillow furniture making family dynasty, meaning there are no roped off areas and visitors can sit and enjoy their tour without being asked not to touch. Friendly and enthusiastic guides welcome your group at the front door before leading you through the house, sharing tales of family mischief and eccentricities!
Discover the secrets of the Gillow family: How one former owner found himself in jail, and what exactly is meant by "Tickling the Moose". Climb the flying staircase and find out why there is a lock of King James hair in the Drawing Room.
The price includes admission to Leighton Hall, its grounds and 19th century walled garden as well as birds of prey flown at 3:30 (weather permitting) during the summer season.
How to get here:
By Car: 10 minutes drive from M6, exit 35. Leighton Hall is signposted with brown tourism signs from the M6 junction on the A6
If using Satnav, our postcode is LA5 9ST, however we strongly recommend that once you have reached the A6, you follow the brown tourism signs as satnavs can be inaccurate from here on.
By Coach: Follow directions as above, but rather than taking the signed route off the A6 up Dykes Lane, continue a few 100 yards along the A6 to the next left up Roseacre Lane - signed 'Leighton Coaches'. At the end turn left, up the hill where you will pick up the brown tourism signs again. You are only 5 minutes away!
